Cycle Olympe de Gouges : Danse contemporaine avec Dalila Belaza

Avec Figures, Dalila Belaza enquête sur la possibilité d’un rite universel, en inventant une danse traditionnelle imaginaire « sans origine ni territoire » qui relie le présent à l’éternité. Une force qui prend possession du corps, en écho à un patrimoine dont chacun est chargé, souvent inconsciemment. Fluide et apparemment abstrait, vêtu d’un costume qui semble sans contours, porté par des lumières et environnements sonores subliminales, ce corps donné à l’inconscient appartient à toutes les communautés de l’humanité. Et comme dans les tableaux de Pierre Soulages, la lumière peut surgir de l’obscurité, non en intrus mais comme son jaillissement.

Née en 1973, Dalila Belaza a grandi dans un environnement où les contes et récits familiaux ont nourri son imaginaire. Si, enfant, elle ne dansait pas encore, ces histoires ont jeté les bases de sa pratique artistique, qu’elle incarne sur scène à travers le corps. C’est aux côtés de sa soeur, la chorégraphe Nacera Belaza, qu’elle amorce son parcours artistique. Ensemble, elles partagent une vision du corps comme un phénomène en relation avec d’autres phénomènes. En 2020, Dalila Belaza fonde sa propre compagnie, hiya compagnie, après sa rencontre avec le groupe folklorique Lous Castelous. Sa démarche s’articule autour d'une recherche visant à lier la mémoire des rituels folkloriques et la danse contemporaine. De cette rencontre naît une danse intemporelle et universelle, qui prend forme dans des créations telles que Au coeur, Figures et Rive. À partir de 2024, elle est artiste associée à La Briqueterie - CDCN du Val-de-Marne, où elle présente sa prochaine création, Orage, en 2025.

With Figures, Dalila Belaza investigates the possibility of a universal rite, inventing an imaginary traditional dance "without origin or territory" that connects the present to eternity. A force that takes possession of the body, echoing a heritage with which everyone is imbued, often unconsciously. Fluid and seemingly abstract, clothed in a costume that appears without contours, carried by subliminal lights and soundscapes, this body surrendered to the unconscious belongs to all the communities of humanity. And as in Pierre Soulages' paintings, light can emerge from darkness, not as an intruder but as its very surge.

Born in 1973, Dalila Belaza grew up in an environment where family tales and stories nourished her imagination. Though she did not yet dance as a child, these stories laid the foundation for her artistic practice, which she embodies on stage through the body. Dalila Belaza first made her mark as a performer for, and artistic partner, of her sister, the choreographer Nacera Belaza. Through their research into the body’s deep memories and into dance inhabited by a unlimited inner space, they charted a significant path in the choreographic landscape. Over time, and drawing on this foundation, Dalila Belaza felt the need to give voice and form to her own questions. This has led her to pursue several lines of enquiry, extending this field of existence to other realities. For some years now, Dalila has been conducting her own projects, and developing work that probes the themes of identity and explores dialogue between ritual dance and abstraction. Through dance, she seeks “a utopian territory where the personal and the universal meet, like two infinite horizons”.
