Snapping 2025 / Snap Dance est la dernière installation vidéo multi-écrans de l'artiste Michael Laub. Une galerie de portraits cambodgiens défile à l’écran — tantôt intriguants, tantôt hypnotiques — capturant la puissance et la fragilité du mouvement humain.

Cette série de portraits vidéo présente un éventail d'individus d'une diversité intrigante, et Snap Dance capture des danseurs allant du ballet au hip-hop. Les danseurs évoluent sans musique, le spectateur n'entend que leurs pas, leur respiration, le bruissement de leurs costumes et, bien sûr, le claquement de leurs doigts. Conçue et réalisée au Cambodge, cette œuvre est un retour aux origines minimalistes de l'artiste, et réinvente son installation emblématique Snapping (1981), initialement créée en Belgique, en Suède et en Thaïlande, en la revisitant à travers le prisme de la danse contemporaine.

Depuis 2011, Laub s'est fait connaître pour sa production de The Portrait Series, qui adapte le portrait classique à la scène. Depuis plus de deux décennies, il utilise les arts vivants et la vidéo pour capturer de larges échantillons socio-culturels, géographiques et professionnels de la société, exposant dans divers lieux et institutions culturelles à travers l'Europe et l'Asie.

Rendez-vous mercredi 12 novembre à 18h pour l'inauguration ! L'installation se déploie en 3 temps, d'abord dans la galerie, ensuite au Bistrot, pour finir au cinéma. 
Après l'inauguration, l'installation est accessible aux horaires suivants :
- le 13 novembre de 10h à 12 puis 18h30 à 20h
- le 14 novembre  de 10h à 12h puis de 14h à 20h
- le 15 novembre de 10h à 12h puis de 13h à 18h

A multi-screen video installation by Michael Laub

Snapping 2025 / Snap Dance is the latest multi-screen video installation by acclaimed artist Michael Laub. The video portrait series features an intriguingly diverse array of individuals, and Snap Dance captures performers of dance ranging from ballet to hip-hop. The dancers move without music, the viewer hears only their footsteps, their breathing, the rustling of their costumes, and, of course, the snapping of their fingers.

Laub first produced a Snapping installation from 1981 to 1983 in Antwerp, Stockholm, and Bangkok and presented it there and in other locations. In 2021, while writing a book, he looked into his archives and found a trailer from that original installation, although he had lost the original footage. He grew curious to see if it could still be relevant today. This year, he decided to expand the concept by introducing a strong dance component.

Since 2011, Laub has gained renown for his production of The Portrait Series, which adapts classical portraiture to the stage. For more than two decades, he has employed live arts and video to capture wide socio-cultural, geographical, and professional cross-sections of society, exhibiting in various locations and cultural institutions across Europe and Asia.

Join us on Wednesday, November 12 at 6pm for the inauguration! The installation is in 3 parts, first the exhibition gallery, then Le Bistrot, and finally in the cinema.
After the inauguration, the installation is accessible according to the following schedule:
- November 13 from 10am to 12pm, then 6:30pm to 8pm 
- November 14 from 10am to 12pm, then 2pm to 8pm 
- November 15 from 10am to 12pm, then 1pm to 6pm
