Join us for a new cinema rendez-vous at the Institut français! IFC is launching its Cineclub, where a Cambodian director is invited to choose a film that they find personally inspiring or technically impressive. For this first rendez-vous, we welcome LY Polen, a rising star in Southeast Asian cinema. After abandoning his medical studies to pursue his passion, he quickly gained recognition for his poetic short films and documentaries that sensitively explore social issues, human rights, and nature. His works, such as Further and Further Away and Becoming Human, have been selected for and won awards at numerous international festivals.

Gong Youbin was born into a poor Chinese family. He has not seen his mother since he was three months old. Because of a poetry class in school, he embarks on an emotional journey by learning to write poems through his imagination and exploration. By observing his upbringing in the countryside of Hunan, surrounded by dreams and the harsh realities of his family’s struggles, ALWAYS is an allegory for the loss of innocence, as Gong inevitably has to grow up out of childhood and face reality.
