OUT OF MY SKIN
Based on Coming Out of My Skin
Written and performed by Jean-Baptiste Phou
Directed by Sasapin Siriwanij
Out of My Skin is a solo performance based on Jean-Baptiste Phou’s memoir Coming Out of My Skin (Seagull Books, 2023). It follows the journey of a gay man of Cambodian and Chinese descent, born in France, in his search for love, identity, and reconciliation.
First adapted into Khmer at the Institut français du Cambodge for the Golden(R)age festival in 2025, this new 2026 version brings together author-performer Jean-Baptiste Phou and Thai director Sasapin Siriwanij in a stripped-down and fragmented solo where text, body, objects, and space become a living encounter with memory and the audience.
Sasapin Siriwanij is a Bangkok-based theatre artist, dramaturg, director, curator, and producer. She is a member of B-Floor Theatre, co-founder of For What Theatre, and director of the Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting (BIPAM).
Jean-Baptiste Phou is a French-Cambodian author, performer, and multidisciplinary artist working across theatre, literature, and film. His
work includes the play Cambodia Here I Am, the award-winning documentary My Mother’s Tongue and the short film Seda.
